Mark Taylor of the Open Source Consortium

Mark is the founder and Executive Director of the Open Source Consortium in the UK. The OSC comprises more than 80 of the country’s leading Open Source businesses. The OSC’s purpose is to bring Open Source technologies to the UK Government and Public Sector, and is at the heart of the high-profile Government-funded ‘Open Source Academy’. I have met Mark through my work with the Danish Open Source Vendors Association (OSL).

Computerworld UK has a recent interesting interview with Mark on the state of open source business in the UK.

Here is Mark’s take on the role of OSC:

The community position is “Free, as in ‘speech’”.
The monopolist position is “Free, as in ‘worthless’”.
The OSC position is “Free, as in ‘markets’”.
