Speednames, which was founded by Nikolaj Nyholm in 1998 and later emerged as a leading international domain name registrar and management company was in January 2007 acquired by Group NBT, a leading British company within domain name administration and managed hosting. Speednames became part of that company’s NetNames Division.

On 23 September 2011 it was announced that the English private equity fund, Hg Capital has made a GBP 153m cash offer for Group NBT. On 15 December 2011 it was announced by the Danish financial newspaper, Børsen, that that offer had been accepted thereby marking another step on Speednames’ journey from a startup company to become part of a big international corporation owned by a private equity fund.
